When Disability Rights Ohio’s Board of Directors wanted to develop a diversity plan to try to ensure the composition of our Board reflects the diversity of Ohio’s disabled population, we turned to Dr. Pat for guidance and insight. Not only did Dr. Pat help the Board develop a plan that was based on data, she walked us through restructuring our whole recruitment process for new board members. This was a very thorough process that included rewriting the board member job description, the interview questions, and the candidate rating form to aid the Board in selecting diverse candidates in a purposeful manner. Dr. Pat gave thoughtful insight on how to write questions that provided the whole Board with the relevant information we needed to make hard decisions. She also helped develop a candidate rating form that was more objective and helps the interviewers all focus on looking for specific information within the candidates’ answers. Thanks to Dr. Pat, Disability Rights Ohio has a diversity plan and a board recruitment strategy that will make the organization stronger and more successful for years to come.
